IMPAACT Observes World Hepatitis Day
Today is World Hepatitis Day. Observed annually on 28 July, World Hepatitis Day raises awareness of viral hepatitis and this year’s theme, Hepatitis: Let’s break it down, is a call to action to remove barriers standing in the way of eliminating hepatitis. Although vaccines and therapies to treat hepatitis and save lives are available, a lack of awareness and access to care still exist.
Viral hepatitis is a co-occurring condition with HIV, and the IMPAACT Network remains committed to hepatitis research. IMPAACT 2041 is a study designed to evaluate the pharmacokinetics and safety of Glecaprevir/Pibrentasvir (GLE/PB) during pregnancy and postpartum in women with hepatitis C with and without HIV. IMPAACT 2041 began enrolling on 25 June 2026 and the study is taking place at 10 sites across the United States.
While much work lies ahead to break down barriers and enable access to care, IMPAACT is steadfast in making progress and moving the science forward.
