Implementation Science Core (IS Core)
The Implementation Science Core (IS Core) within the IMPAACT Network was formed in June 2026 and works to strengthen the integration of implementation science methods, measures, and dissemination strategies across the IMPAACT Network. The Core provides structured review, consultation, education, and harmonization of IS approaches. These efforts are designed to improve the feasibility, uptake, and real-world impact of this network on the health and wellbeing of pregnant, postpartum, infant, children, and adolescents living with HIV.
The IS Core is comprised of experts in implementation science with experience in the areas of community-based interventions, hybrid and adaptive study designs, human‑centered design, mixed methods, and health economics. IS Core members are experienced in research related to HIV, TB, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, trauma informed care, health care systems, cancer, genomics, epidemiology, and rural health.
Priorities include:
- Support scientific committees in utilizing implementation science as part of the IMPAACT Network’s scientific aims
- Provide IS-focused review of IMPAACT concept sheets and protocols
- Offer consultative and partnered support to protocol teams incorporating IS components
- Develop and deliver IS-focused educational programming for the Network
- Promote standardization of IS measures to enable cross-protocol learning
- Support network-level data collection that facilitate IS research (e.g., confirming IMPAACT site representativeness of the key populations, care settings, and system-level factors that influence intervention implementation and uptake)
The IS Core offers the following support for research in development:
Concept Sheets
The IS Core assists with the integration of IS components into concept sheets. Support offered includes:
- Review of IS-related elements
- Suggestions of IS elements
Reviews will be conducted concurrently with Scientific Committee reviews.
Protocols in Development
The IS Core provides technical assistance with IS components of protocols. IS Core members will assist protocol teams in the following roles, as appropriate:
- Consultant for IS components
- Protocol team member
Support will be provided after a concept sheet has been approved for development.
