Social Behavioral Scientific Core (SBSC)

The Social Behavioral Scientific Core (SBSC) for the IMPAACT network was formed in January 2019 and is charged with providing social behavioral science focused review of proposals under review by IMPAACT Scientific Committees (SC), or as requested by leadership or a protocol team.

The SBSC is comprised of experts in the areas of engagement in HIV care, HIV prevention, retention, adherence and other aspects of social behavioral determinants of study product and open-label drug use, support and measurement. Core members are all experienced in the conduct of multi-site clinical trials and the review of proposals, and they support to the network in a variety of capacities:

  • Review of and contribution to proposal development (e.g., concept sheets) as representatives on each IMPAACT Scientific Committee
  • Contribution to protocols in development (concept sheets) put forward by Scientific Committees  
  • Information and guidance to protocol teams and IMPAACT members  
  • Collaborations with IMPAACT Scientific Committees in social behavioral science focused efforts to prevent and treat HIV, TB and other HIV co-infections and complications 
  • Ad hoc consultation and project support to all scientific committees and leadership thought out the protocol lifecycle
  • Facilitation of discussions/workshops engaging social behavioral scientists across the Network
